You Are What You Eat

Have you ever heard the old saying, you are what you eat?

It is actually very true. Although there other factors to consider, such as individual digestion efficiency and biochemistry, when it comes down to it your physical body is indeed the result of what you are eating.

If that is the case then have a think about this. Did you know that our bodies are actually constantly in the process of renewing themselves? The white blood cells are replaced approximately every ten days, the skin cells every 24 days, most cells lining the gastro-intestinal tract are renewed every 4 days, our bones undergo complete renewal every 12 months and it takes around 7 years to change all of the molecules of the cells of the human body.

Where does our body get the fuel it needs to cause this to happen?

You guessed right, from the food we eat - you are what you eat! If we are therefore eating foods that have little nutritive value such as refined white products and processed food that is laden with sugar, hydrogenated fats and additives then this is all the body has to draw on to build new tissue and survive. It does the best it can but the effects are shown in the long term in disease and weight problems.

Everyone can do something toward improving the way they look, feel and live through what they are eating, but the number one reason they do not is because of a lack of understanding of what constitutes right and wrong food and diet.

In the meantime, stay healthy, and remember you are what you eat.
