Vitamin B6 is a water-soluble vitamin and performs a variety of important functions needed for good health.

Vitamin B6 is involved in protein metabolism and is necessary for more than 100 enzymes needed for protein metabolism. It is also essential for our red blood cells and nervous and immune systems.

We need vitamin B6 to make hemoglobin in the red blood cells, which carries oxygen to the tissues. Vitamin B6 deficiency can result in anemia similar to iron deficiency anemia. Vitamin B6 is also important to the immune system as well as helping to maintain blood sugar.

Vitamin B6 can be found in a wide variety of foods including beans, poultry, fish, some fruits and vegetables and fortified cereals.
