Sodium

Sodium plays a vital role in the body.

This mineral, although often thought of as bad because of salt intake etc, is important because it works with potassium and chloride to maintain critical water and acid/alkali balance in the body. It is known as one of the electrolytes and has a positive ion in the body and found outside the cells. It also has a part in helping muscle contraction including the heart muscle and contributes to the functioning of nerves. Excessive amounts of sodium can lead to high blood pressure in some people.
