Potassium

Potassium, being one of the electrolytes, plays a vital role in the balance of the water and acid/alkaline systems in the body.

It is found in the body as a positive ion and works with sodium and chloride in helping this balance. Potassium also helps in muscle contractions, in particular maintaining a regular heartbeat. It is also involved in maintaining blood sugar. It is widely available in foods such as fruits like bananas and plums, animal products, also molasses are high in potassium. Deficiency indications could include irregular heartbeat and palpitations, diarrhoea and water imbalance due to sodium ratio.
