Total Fitness, Training and Sports

If you are a sports person or athlete of any type, either professional or amateur, then you need to be in optimal health - and total fitness - to make a mark in your chosen field.

Optimal health comes from the right kind of nutrition. Your physical body will be competing against that of others and, absolutely, you will only be as good as the nutrients you are feeding that body. Remember a house is only as good as its foundations and your foundation is the nutrients you are using to build your body, make it strong and supply it with the necessary energy. No amount of sports training can replace this, in fact unless you have this part right the advancements training can give will be severely hindered.

When we talk about nutrients we are talking about protein, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals and water. All these work as a team to keep you in optimal health and ensure you are at your best physically, and in total fitness. It is up to you to ensure you are getting the right types in the right quantity, a lack of just one of these can mean the difference between winning or losing.

For example, if you are lacking in water then your performance will be decimated. When you burn calories during sports some of those released calories power muscles but some are released as heat. Water will keep you from overheating and you don't wait until you are thirsty either, by then it is too late. Just a two percent loss of water supplies can have a considerable effect on performance.

In the meantime, stay healthy.
